Day 8 was shorter than I expected, Dad and Ruth made it only a few tenths of a mile past Bly Gap1.
Yesterday (Day 9), they hiked a whopping 15 miles, and stayed the night camped out near Carter Gap Shelter2.
They called today from the top of Albert Mountain (at 11:19 am), and had already hiked 7 miles (Day 10). Their target for today is 13 miles, so they can spend tonight in Franklin, NC, and take tomorrow off.
Day | Miles | |

April 8 | 8 | 9.1 miles |
9 | 15 miles | |

Trail Food
They like the Mountain House Food4. They've had the vegetable lasagne and the pasta primavera and said it was very tasty, with nothing to clean up when they're done.
Ruth mentioned that there were some girls camping near them the other day. They were fresh in from town, and had bagels, cold pizza, and made pudding

Erin, this site is great! We're going to enjoy tracking Mike & Ruth's progress. Only Mikie could get blisters on his butt, though.
Hey just wanted to drop a note to tell Ruth that her "adopted sons" are rooting for her back at the house on Copeland. Just let her know that her house is still standing and shadow misses her!
